This is a chat I had with a guy on the Internet about religion and religious conflicts.
| Me: | I don't see a real conflic between various religions.
| Guy: | Then why religious conflict?
| Me: | Persons claiming to be religious fail to understand a few simple basic points, such as for example, there is only one God and the goal of all religions is to develop our relationship with God. Not all fail this, but quite a few.
| Guy: | But persons obviously disagree over "God." Why?
| Me: | Because they are often mainly interested in having a fan club saying that their way is the best or only way, they are less interested in actually understanding our relationship with God.
| Guy: | Then you evidently actually understand the proper relationship with God.
| Me: | I think I am going in a good direction, even though I am not an expert in understanding God and our relationship with God. But the principle I understand, and it seems quite obvious to me.
| Guy: | Good. So what is that God you understand?
| Me: | I dont think I know much about God, but the things I mentioned I think I understand quite well, which is more a psychological analysis of religious people, rather than a theological analysis.
| Guy: | I see. So what have you figured out about the religious?
| Me: | Well, basically as I said, that many (not all, though) are more interested in running, or being accepted in, a fan club, rather than actually understanding God and our relationship with him. To me, if I look at various religions, such as Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, etc., it is quite obvious that the core message in all these religions is the same, and thus I would say there is only one religion, and the goal of all "religions" must be to understand it and live it, and thus naturally respect and accept eachother.
| Guy: | I agree with you. Too bad some of the religious don't.
| Me: | Yes.
