Reality and the map |

Some people eventually put more importance to their maps than to reality. They see clearly their maps, but they do not see reality very clearly.
To such people reality becomes merely something that reminds them of their map, something that animates their map and brings it to life. But the map remains the important thing, and when reality does not conform to the map they resort to their map and forget or deny reality.
Reality has now become what the map was before, i.e. a representation — in this case of the map — a representation that unfortunately contains many irrelevant and sometimes disturbing details.
